Dear Lord; Good afternoon Father.
As You know Lord, I’ve been spending time lately delving back into the books of the Old Testament. There are so many treasures in those writings, and each time I read from those pages I get new life breathed into my spirit. This past weekend I read through the entire book of Leviticus and although it was a long read for me, I did gain some quiet wisdom from those passages. Inside of all of those pages of Laws and Rules You dictated to Moses for the Israelites was one common theme:
You care about Your Children, and want us to be healthy, obedient and prosperous.
Now, I realize that’s a serious overgeneralization Father, but I believe a reasonable one all the same. You laid down Rules for worship, for cleanliness, for conduct and for medical treatment that served to guide them as a society in those times. You cared enough to give them that foundation, those morals and that guidance.
It’s very much what I try to impress on my own children;
A sense of commitment…
A feeling of wonder…
Respect for laws, rules and ethics…
A sense of responsibility…
Empathy and compassion for others…
And a deep Love and Reverence for You.
And funny enough, that’s exactly what I got from Your Word this weekend. Thank You. 🙂

Look at all those good lookin’ men!!:) I agree, the OT is rich with treasure… More than I ever knew until I started digging in those scriptures! After having children I “got” the relationship between us and Jesus so much more! Everything that He allows to come our way is to make us more like Him! Like seeing pictures! We should all post more like that!!

Don’t you just love the Old Testament? It’s the beginning of everything also it references to the new testament..

God’s Word is full of wisdom and truth for our lives if we did into it. Every time I read it I discover something new. We are God’s children. He loves us and cares for us. That is a wonderful truth!

Thankyou Phil. I was a kid in London in WW2. One day at my local underground I saw a big poster on the wall that had two quotes. They riveted me. Never forgot them. From memory these quotes were:
“And a man shall be as a hiding place from the wind or the shadow of a great rock in a weary land.”
And the other:
“I am with thee, and I shall keep thee, whithersoever thou goest.”
Great quotes from Isaiah and Genesis Christopher, and a wonderful memory you have! I can’t imagine what growing up in that time of such upheaval was like, but I’m very happy that those bits of reassurance stuck with you throughout the years. As it happens, the quote you chose from Genesis finishes with “I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.” (Genesis 28:15 – NIV). Based on your blog postings and what I’ve come to know of you, that seems to fit very nicely. 🙂
