Emails to God
Each weekday I transpose and share the whispers and messages God places on my heart in the form of “Emails to God”.
Christ is Risen!
Dear Lord; Good morning Father, and Happy Easter! My heart is light today Father; filled with the power of what this day of celebration represents! Following a dreary, rainy Good Friday (which seemed somewhat appropriate weather to me), the weather broke late yesterday; almost as if the light were yearning for the coming dawn. Today I awoke to a beautiful sunlit morning, as if the world itself is rejoicing on this Day of Resurrection! Brought up in a Lutheran Church, I’ve been hearing the following phrase whispered through my heart quite a...

Dear Lord; Happy Thankful Thursday Father! And so Lord, we come to another Thankful Thursday edition of PhatherPhil.org. It’s been a truly eventful week, and other than a few headaches the most productive one I’ve had in a while. Therefore, this week I’m most thankful for all the pieces that fit together and allowed that productivity: For the unexpected, selfless, and very much appreciated assistance of my (earthly) father… For the tireless efforts of my staff… For the daily compassion, understanding, support and flexibility of...

Dear Lord; Good evening Father! You know Father, throughout the years I’ve been in business I’ve had an amazingly diverse group of clients. In most cases, we have an excellent rapport with our customers; they know we’ll do what’s necessary to satisfy their IT needs, and that even when things don’t go exactly as planned we’re in their corner and will make sure things are taken care of. We work diligently on their behalf, and the great majority of them appreciate what we do for them. And then there are those clients… I’ve...

Dear Lord; Good evening Father! Well Lord, today I had another one of those “geek views on God” moments. We were installing a new server at a client’s site today, and were having some problems joining a couple workstation PCs to the freshly created domain (I know, I know… geeky stuff. I’ll keep this part brief). It’s a reasonably new client and site for us, so after some tests and investigation we realized that there was another legacy machine on the network that was improperly trying to “run the show” and causing conflicts...

Dear Lord; Happy Monday Father! First off Lord, I want to thank You for a lovely weekend. Jonathan was feeling a bit better, so we were able to get out to visit with some good friends Saturday night and then spent Sunday afternoon and evening with my father (the earthly one… 🙂 ) and his wife. The children love visiting with their grandparents, and it was wonderful to be able to get out and spend time with them. All in all, a very restful and enjoyable couple of days and I thank You for that time of respite. This evening Father,...

Dear Lord; Good morning Father! Well Father, it feels a little odd to be writing to You on a Saturday morning. As You’re aware, I’m a reasonably schedule-driven person, so when I got home last night and heard You tell me to “just rest” it went against my grain just a bit. But I listened, and I’m thankful for Your Guidance. Between sleep deprivation from a week of insomnia, hectic work schedules and the daily family and household duties, I was truly wiped. It was wonderful to have the opportunity to just curl up on the couch...

Dear Lord; Happy Thankful Thursday Father! Tonight Father, my prayers of thanks are directed towards Children’s Tylenol. Earlier today, I received a call from the school nurse that Jonathan was in her office. She explained that he’d come in a little while ago with tears in his eyes, complaining that his head was really hurting him and that when she’d checked he was indeed running a low-grade fever. She promptly called me, and while I drove over to the school to retrieve him she gave him some Children’s Tylenol to try to knock down...

Dear Lord; Good evening Father. Wow Father, what a long and tiring day this was. I started the day at a client’s site at 7:45 this morning, and finally drove into my driveway at 8:45 tonight. I’m wiped. Heading home this evening, I was driving along some back roads while Andrew Peterson’s “Counting Stars” CD massaged my mental temperament following the day’s toils. It was a dark and clear evening, and the stars seemed especially bright away from the street lights and incursions of blatant civilization. My mind drifted a...

Dear Lord; Good evening Father! Ah Lord, spring is truly here in all it’s glory; the grass is growing, the trees are sprouting, the flowers are starting to bloom… And the pollen is everywhere. Heading out to work and school this morning, we exited the garage and were faced with a lesson in color manipulation; my nice dark blue SUV had turned a fuzzy shade of green. The dusting of yellow pollen was so thick across the skin of the vehicle that it literally looked to be a different color. Yuck. The golden film held on all throughout the...

Dear Lord; Happy Monday Father! Well Father, it was certainly a hectic weekend here! Friday night we decided to be a little lazy, ordered a pizza and then watched the new Narnia movie together (I love family movie night!). Saturday however, was nothing resembling quiet and restful. Shannon and Aidan headed off to an ice skating production themed around Peter Pan’s Neverland adventures, and Jonathan and I hit the road to Williamsport, Maryland for his first concert… And what an experience it was Father. Jonathan’s favorite group for...
