{"id":543,"date":"2011-02-03T18:14:01","date_gmt":"2011-02-03T23:14:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.phatherphil.org\/?p=543"},"modified":"2011-02-03T22:49:51","modified_gmt":"2011-02-04T03:49:51","slug":"integrity-in-broadcasting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.phatherphil.org\/?p=543","title":{"rendered":"Integrity in Broadcasting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dear Lord; Good afternoon Father.\u00a0 As You\u2019re aware Lord, I\u2019ve had something on my mind the last few days that\u2019s been bothering me.\u00a0 The funny thing is, my aggravations are regarding an event I\u2019ve never really had much interest in; the Super Bowl.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve never been a big football fan.\u00a0 In fact, other than a couple of games I went to when I was in college, I\u2019ve never even attended a live game\u2026 It just never really caught my interest.\u00a0 This year really wasn\u2019t much different, until I read a news story about a commercial that had been rejected by Fox Broadcasting Company for <em>\u201cdelivering a religious message\u201d<\/em>.\u00a0 As I\u2019ve seen some pretty racy and scary Super Bowl commercials over the years, I went and sought out the <em>\u201coffending\u201d<\/em> segment :<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" width=\"599\" height=\"367\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/nRCZkGshQGc?rel=0\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Really??\u00a0 This was deemed to contain too much religious doctrine??\u00a0 Wow\u2026 I am so terribly sorry Father.\u00a0 We\u2019ve truly fallen from You as a society.\u00a0 From a country that has <em>\u201cIn God We Trust\u201d<\/em> on our currency, this truly makes no sense to me.\u00a0 Fox certainly isn\u2019t worried about offending viewers with the content on shows like <em>\u201cFamily Guy\u201d<\/em> or Fox Sports\u2019 Internet show <em>\u201cCubed\u201d<\/em>, but they\u2019re concerned that someone might take a reference to a Bible verse as an affront?<\/p>\n<p>Fox issued a statement last week that stated :<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;As a matter of company policy, Fox Broadcasting Company does not accept advertising from religious organizations for the purpose of advancing particular beliefs or practices. The Fixed Point Foundation was provided with our guidelines prior to their submission of storyboards for our review. Upon examination, the advertising submitted clearly delivers a religious message and as a result has been rejected.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ok, so the reason they\u2019re airing commercials for the new movie <em>\u201cThe Rite\u201d<\/em> is because it\u2019s not from a religious organization?\u00a0 Wow\u2026\u00a0 I\u2019m completely at a loss on this one.<\/p>\n<p>I realize that as a private company Fox has the right to choose what they do and don\u2019t air on their network within FCC guidelines, but if a little of that <em>\u201cconcern\u201d<\/em> about offending viewers were redirected to examining some of the programming and advertisements they do broadcast, I have a feeling the lineup would be far different than it is now.<\/p>\n<p>Heavenly Father, thank You for letting me rant on about this today.\u00a0 As always, You\u2019re a wonderful listener.\u00a0 Please fill our hearts and minds with Your Presence and Understanding, so that everyone can experience that Hope :<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cFor God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.\u201d \u2013 John 3:16<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Amen.<\/p>\n<p>~Phather Phil<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dear Lord; Good afternoon Father.\u00a0 As You\u2019re aware Lord, I\u2019ve had something on my mind the last few days that\u2019s been bothering me.\u00a0 The funny thing is, my aggravations are regarding an event I\u2019ve never really had much interest in; the Super Bowl.
