Prayers for a Good Friend…

Dear Lord; My thoughts and prayers this morning are concentrated on a very good friend who’s scheduled to have surgery today.  Please make Yourself known to her, and let her feel Your Divine Presence so that she can be at peace during the procedure.  Heal her body and spirit, and keep her in Your Loving Gaze.  Amen.  ~Phather Phil

Connected to the Universe…

Dear Lord; As my Spiritual Journey continues down the Path, it’s amazing to me how connected I feel to those around me and the world in general.  I’ve always looked at my life as a balance between my physical existence and my spiritual consciousness, but as I’ve grown in my relationship with You it’s been much more apparent to me how the two interact.  The more I focus on Listening to Your Voice, the more I feel a part of everyone else around me.  Call it a “Spiritual Awakening” if you like, but the more I blend my Spirituality into my daily life the more fulfilled I feel in general.  Thank You for Your Guidance, and for that growth.  Amen.  ~Phather Phil

Prayers for Jonathan While He’s Away…

Dear Lord; Today Lord, my thoughts and wishes fly to my son Jonathan as he heads off on an overnight school field trip.  Now, he’s been away from home before but for some reason I still worry about him every time he goes off on a new adventure.  Although You continue to bless us with the continued remission from his Langerhans, I still tend to be a bit on the over-protective side where he’s concerned.  Please keep him in Your Loving Embrace throughout his trip, and see him safely home to his Mother and I.  Amen.  ~Phather Phil

When the World Seems Overwhelming…

Dear Lord; It’s often said that we’re our own worst critics.  I know in my case, that’s usually true.  With the times we live in it seems we’re constantly deluged with negative information from all sides, which can make even the strongest of us start to feel overwhelmed and beaten.  Once that happens, our day-to-day tasks take on a whole new perspective, and self-doubt can creep in.  Please help us focus on the positives in our lives, and to see our daily trials for what they truly are.  Raise Your Blessings in our hearts and minds, and give us the strength to go forward in Your Grace.  Amen.  ~Phather Phil

The Origin of “Phather Phil”…

The question of my “Phather Phil” designation has come up a number of times recently, so I thought it made sense to post an answer for all to see.  When I received my Ordination back in September 2009, some friends and I were having a discussion as to what they would call me in a Ministerial context.  I explained that for a number of reasons, Father Phil was appropriate and what I’d chosen to go by.  Shortly thereafter, one of them sent me an email and in the message referred to me as Phather Phil.  She explained that as my Religious and Spiritual perspectives were in some cases non-traditional, that name seemed much more fitting (and it played on my first name nicely).  I liked it, so it stuck and phatherphil.org followed shortly thereafter.  🙂

A Search for Happiness…

Dear Lord; Yesterday, a FaceBook posting from a good friend started the wheels in my head turning. It said: “Happiness is a CHOICE”. While seemingly obvious, it’s really not. We all strive to be happy in this life, however in many cases that endeavor takes us directions that really don’t bring us any closer to it. Please help guide each of us to that Path of Inner Peace, so we can focus on what true Happiness really is. Amen.  ~Phather Phil
